About KeNPUD
A community-led movement founded in 2012 to protect the health, dignity, and rights of people who use drugs across Kenya.
Our Story
The Kenya Network of People Who Use Drugs (KeNPUD) was founded in 2012 through a collective initiative by people who use drugs in Kenya. Born out of frustration with a system that excluded the very people it claimed to serve, KeNPUD set out to ensure improved health outcomes for the community affected by drug use and drug dependency, free of harm and stigma.
In over a decade of operation, we have grown from a small advocacy group into Kenya’s primary representative body for people who use drugs — recognized by government, international funders, and community organizations alike. Our membership spans seven counties: Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Malindi, Kilifi, Kwale, and Kiambu.
We bring together grassroots organizations and civil society to form a unified voice towards minimizing barriers to healthcare and harm reduction services. Every programme we run, every policy we engage with, and every meeting we attend is guided by one principle: nothing about us, without us.

What We Do
Advocacy & Policy Reform
We champion reforms that ensure voices of people who use drugs shape the health and legal response to drug use in Kenya — from county to national level.
Community Empowerment
We strengthen grassroots work through training, mentorship, and leadership development — promoting inclusivity for women, young people, and persons with disabilities who use drugs.
Health & Harm Reduction
We create safe spaces for peer support and enhance access to comprehensive health services including mental health, social support, and medically assisted therapy.
Accountability & Coordination
We partner with our community and public and private sectors to ensure services remain transparent, evidence-based, and responsive to real needs.
